Iran: Rate of women’s suicide rose 66% in five years

Khabar Online on November 3, 2017.
The rate of suicide among Iranian women had a 66% rise in five years.
The article reveals that in the five years from 2011 to 2015, the rate of suicide among Iranian women had risen 66%.
The number of suicide victims were registered as 2462 in 2011 and 3234 in 2015.
17 per cent of Iranian students in sophomore to senior years in high school have reported that they had seriously pondered committing suicide over the past 12 months.
The figures clearly show an increase in the number of Iranian women committing suicide over the past decade. They also indicate that 83% of those who committed suicide were women under 34 years of age. (The state-run Khabaronline.ir – November 3, 2017)
The daily reports of suicide lead us to believe that the actual numbers of suicide victims especially among women are much higher than what is reported by the state-run media and contrary to the baseless claims made by the Iranian regime officials.
