While Hassan Rouhani president of the regime, claims to be a reformist and freedom lover, some of his cabinet members, and those who are now in power, participated in the massacre of political prisoners in the 1980s.
The massacre of political prisoners took place in the summer of 1988, just a few weeks after the end of the eight-year Iran-Iraq war. Scaring of the fate of his regime after insisting on a eight-year bloody, defeated war, Khomeini ordered to formation of a delegation (known as the Death committee) to massacre the political prisoners, to keep his feeble regime standing alive. The task of this staff was asking three key questions regarding the political opinion of prisoners. The political activists who had stood firm on their believes for freedom and democracy, were sentenced to go to the gallows.
