Iranian Regime’s Fear of PMOI/MEK Revealed in Remarks on Iranians’ Grand Gathering in Paris

Iran’s economic and social crises are pushing the Iranian society deeper into an eruptive state, with the signs being clearly seen in significant increase in recent ongoing protests staged by people from different walks of life.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) is going to hold its Grand Gathering in Paris on June 30, to support Iranian people’s uprising and protests and promote their demand for a regime change in Iran. The gathering shows that Iranian people’s protests are strongly backed both domestically and by the international community.

Iranian regime officials and media meanwhile are expressing their fear of the gathering in their remarks, while still weeks away from the event.

In a press conference held on Sunday June 11, 2018, regime’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman claimed that “Rouhani’s government has had talks with French officials for cancelling the gathering.”

Bahram Ghasemi then reminded France that “the MEK (The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran which is the main force inside NCRI) holds gatherings in France every once in a while. This is not acceptable for Iran (the regime), as we’ve said that no double standard approach should be adopted, thereby dividing the terrorism into a good one and a bad one.”

Ghasemi then began threatening France, saying “those who give permit for such gatherings are wrong, as they themselves will be affected by the consequences as well.”

“The protests that erupted recently across Iran involved setting fire to the State Security Force’s motorcycles, breaking the windows of religious seminaries in Abhar and Zanjan, setting fire to police kiosks in Arak, opening fire on the IRGC with hunting rifles, assaulting a State Security Force officer with a brick….” according to Brig. Gen. Rasoul Sanai, Political Affairs Deputy for the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

Sanai spoke about the behind the scenes developments of the recent unrest, “Their plan was to spread the riots from the surrounding areas to the capital (Tehran) because they believe owing to previous incidents in Tehran and major cities, Iran’s security and defense forces had been trained and gained the expertise to confront riotous actions. But in other cities the potential for inciting the public is much greater and the security forces have a lesser presence.”

He blamed the Iranian Resistance for the escalation of the protests, saying, “As such, the most serious clashes took place in Touyserkan (Hamedan Province) and several people were killed, including two people who attacked the prison and have yet to be identified. The leaders and those inciting the protests in this city were from the ‘Hypocrites’ (MEK or PMOI). They had come from other cities so as not to be identified. Those who were detained were pursued from the time of MEK incursion into western Iran in 1988….”\

MATTIS' REMARKS UNSETTLE IRANIAN REGIME

When US Secretary of Defense James Mattis made remarks regarding the importance of regime change in Iran, it provoked extreme reactions from the Iranian regime.Mattis’ recent remarks is another episode in a series of such statements. US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson first raised the issue of peaceful regime change at a congressional hearing on June 14th.

On July 7th, John Bolton, former US ambassador to the UN said the solution for the Middle East is regime change in Iran. US President Donald Trump and US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, have made very similar statements.

After only 6 months into its term, the new US administration’s positions and actions in regards to Iran is causing the regime to express its concerns through its media.

According to a recent article by Mahmoud Hakamian, there are two reasons Mattis’ remarks had such a powerful effect, “One, the very nature of such words emphasizing on regime change, and two, such a senior US official making these remarks.” He adds, “When the US Secretary of Defense, being a member of the President’s national security team that decides on policies, emphasizes on regime change in Iran, it is obvious how important the matter is. Why didn’t Iran simply react through a few words from its Ministry of Foreign Affairs?”

In the words of the IRGC commander Mohammad Ali  this regime is actually a regional power, who boasts about the victory in Mosul as being possible only because of Iran’s efforts. Then, why have Mattis’ remarks been met with such vehemence?

The answer is, that remarks containing “regime change” is another version of saying “overthrow”, hitting Tehran in a sensitive spot: its instability.

The US Senate overwhelmingly approved major sanctions against Iran with a 98-2 vote. Meanwhile, White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Sanders stressed that the administration will continue its policy of increasing sanctions and pressure on Tehran.

Maryam Rajavi, leader of the Iranian opposition, was the keynote speaker for their annual rally on July 1st in Paris. Mrs. Rajavi emphasized on three major subjects:

1. The need to overthrow the Iranian regime
2. This necessity being in reach
3. Iranian regime has an alternative that could materialize this necessity

Tehran knows where the main threat comes from…

In an interesting side-note, on Tuesday, when Iran’s state TV was covering Mattis’ remarks, they unexpectedly aired the words of US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, who emphasized the necessity of supporting the Iranian opposition.

The tape sent shockwaves through Iran, as it adds new knowledge of the breadth and scope of the massacre and confirms that it involved the highest levels of leadership. For more than two decades silence has been imposed in regards to the massacre because, you see, Iranian leaders who held positions of power at that time, members of the notorious Death Commission, are still in leadership positions today.
